keeping a cruelty-free shower routine 🚿

Hair care and bathing supplies are usually forgotten when it comes to changing over to a cruelty-free lifestyle. After all, many of us simply don’t have access to decent cruelty-free substitutes, and drug stores are rare to carry any at all. Here, I break down my own shower must-haves and point you in the direction of plenty of places to look and great brands to check out!

Hair Care 💆🏽
Hair care is, in my experience, the toughest. Nearly none of the drug store hair care brands are cruelty-free, and many cruelty-free brands are exceptionally pricey.

I have used Acure‘s shampoo for a while now and have been very satisfied. The shampoos and conditioners run at about $10 each, and can be found at Whole Foods, Target, and Wegmans.

Other brands within that price point include Shea Moisture, Pacifica, Carols Daughter, and Avalon Organics.

Pricier brands also worth checking include John Masters, Red Flower, Pureology, and Lush.

Shaving Cream 💈
Unfortunately, the cruelty-free community is completely lacking in options for shaving cream. I have, however, found a few products worth trying, but they’re definitely more pricy than drugstore shaving creams.

Alba Botanica Very Emollient Cream Shave: Mango Vanilla — $5.04 at iherb.com
Hempz White Peach Rosé and Peony Herbal Shave Gel — $12.99 at ulta.com
Pacifica Coconut Milk Shave Whip — $14 at ulta.com
Kiss My Face Lavender and Shea Shaving Cream — $3.84 at iherb.com
Lush D’Fluff shaving soap — $19.95 at lushusa.com

Body Wash 🍓
There are so many amazing cruelty-free body washes that it’s hard to choose where to begin! I strongly encourage you to go to a Whole Foods and see all of the lovely options, or take a trip to Lush if you need inspiration!

Some of my own personal favorite body washes include Lush’s The Comforter and Yuzu and Cocoa, Dr. Bronner’s Hemp Rose Pure-Castile Liquid Soap, Nourish Organic’s Lavender Mint Moisturizing Cream Body Wash, and Method’s Mandarin Mango Refreshing Body Wash.

Bar Soaps 🍈
In that same vein, cruelty-free bar soaps are aplenty! Some awesome brands include Alaffia, Good Soap, A Wild Soap Bar, Desert Essence, and Tom’s of Maine.

Baby Wash 👶🏼
Whether you’re bathing an actual baby or prefer to use baby-safe products for your feminine health, there are tons of options! My personal favorite is Everyone’s Calendula and Oat Baby Wash — it smells nice and fresh and not at all powdery like most baby products. Other baby washes worth exploring include Dr. Bronner’s Baby-Mild Pure Castile Soap, The Honest Company’s Soothing Baby Bottom Wash, Acure’s 4-in-1 Bare Baby Foamer, and Alaffia’s Babies & Up Coconut Chamomile Shampoo and Body Wash.

I hope this helps you look at your shower routine and spot what’s been tested on animals. If you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to leave a comment! Happy scrubbing. 💖
